Fragments of Reverie

Fragments of Reverie – Full Installation View, Mixed Media, Salem Jackuback & Vincent Gordon, 2024
Fragments of Reverie is a collaborative installation that invites viewers into a dreamlike exploration of texture, narrative, and immersion. Central to the piece is a towering tree sculpture crafted from cardboard and papier-mâché. Adorned with haunting face masks molded from both my own (Salem Jackuback) and Vincent Gordon’s faces, the tree embodies a surreal blend of human and natural elements. The masks, painted and detailed with artificial plants, moss, and layers of paint, evoke a sense of unease and curiosity, as though the tree itself is alive with fragmented memories.
I also created a tree stump sculpture using chicken wire, papier-mâché, cardboard, moss, artificial plants, and a singular mask to complement the tree. This stump served as the base for a CRT monitor, where Vincent Gordon’s visuals brought the installation to life. The CRT displayed captivating animations, including a blinking eye interwoven with depictions of the woods and a campfire, further immersing the audience in the installation’s narrative. The back wall projection, also crafted by Vincent, echoed this ethereal theme with dynamic visuals that tied the space together, making the installation feel like stepping into a fragmented reverie.

Fragments of Reverie – Installation Walkthrough
Step inside Fragments of Reverie, an immersive installation blending sculpture, texture, and digital media. This walkthrough captures the dreamlike space, where a towering tree sculpture, handcrafted masks, and digital projections work together to evoke themes of memory, impermanence, and transformation.
As you explore, notice the intricate details—layers of paper-mâché forming the masks, the organic textures of the tree, and the flickering CRT monitor animations that further blur the boundary between reality and the subconscious. The space invites you to step closer, engage, and reflect on the fragmented narratives woven throughout the installation.
