The Abandoned Sawmill

The Abandoned Sawmill is a photographic journey into the history and transformation of the Aldridge Sawmill located in East Texas. Built in 1905, this once-thriving mill supported a bustling town before a fire in 1911 led to the construction of a concrete mill that symbolized industrial progress. By 1927, the mill and the town were abandoned, leaving behind haunting remnants of concrete buildings, old railroad tracks, and a mill pond reclaimed by nature. This project is close to my heart because I’m drawn to forgotten places and the stories they hold. The Aldridge Sawmill isn’t just a relic—it’s a testament to the balance between human ambition and nature’s resilience. Through my lens, I aim to preserve its history and explore themes of impermanence, memory, and renewal. It’s a chance to reflect on our connection to the spaces we create, abandon, and leave for nature to reclaim.
